What tomorow has in store for me

Time changes many things, including treatments for my Stage IV Prostate Cancer.
Five years later, we face a new course, a new direction.

With my PSA climbing considerably over the last 6 weeks and limited treatment options to chose from, we have decided that I will start DES, a form of women's estrogen. My friend Howard has a good write up here at (

There are two potential side effects, DVT aka Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clots) and/or Gynecomastia (breast enlargement). The former can be managed with Coumadin (Wafarin). The latter requires a one time treatment of radiation to my breasts.

So tomorrow begins the next step. I pray for good results. I pray for the longevity of this treatment. I need a mental break, I need a beach.

David , I am praying for good results for You from this new treatment.
I think You will have a good response , You have never done estrogens. I am hearing from My Oncologist and others that Provenge will be out in May .

You are in my prayers daily. We fight the same fight and your progress is closely watched. I know that each of these treatments are stepping stones to the breakthrough. Have faith that these will move you, step by step, to the time when we can all say that we have beaten Advanced PCa!

I know you are active but be very aware of DVT. I had two, including one while I was on coumadin that developed into a pulmonary embolism.
At the time, I was seriously into bike riding; I first noticed something wrong during a fast, hilly 24-mile ride.
Good luck with the DES; as another stage 4, I'll be making the same decision someday.
