I realize it had been a few days since my last post and as soon as I posted my last, things went south again. I'm really tired and don't have time for a day by day update so here is the cliff notes version:
The over the counter laxatives barely got me through the week. On Friday my local Oncologist phoned in something stronger, 14 hours later it started working. 'Started working' is a far cry from back to normal but we are getting there. Once I get my bowels back on track I can start dealing with the pain and then better sleep will come as well.
As for the trial medication, as of Thursday I restarted at a lower dose (75mg). Now I have to find patience to let it begin working.
My biggest concern is turning this around before my trip to Boston next week. On top of that we have plans to visit with family over the Thanksgiving holiday. Hoping at this point that I will be well enough to make the trip.
That's all for now. I hope to make small amounts of progress each day,and I'll do my best to make sure I write another update before too much time passes!

Thanks for the update. Read recently that 40mg had shown good results with fewer side effects. Hoping 75mg will be the perfect dose for you to see good results and start feeling much better.

Sounds like you've really been through the wringer. Praying that you are strong enough to travel to Boston and to enjoy time with family over the holiday.

T had been (is going) through the same issues (constipation)- most of it due to the pain meds but also cancer near the rectum.
He takes prescription Miralax and Lactulose and he maxes out in Senna and Docusate. Once he gets "ahead" of it, then we try to manage it with Senna & prune juice.... it's been difficult, so we understand the pain and hassle this is for you.
We'll be praying for breakthough for you and success on the trial.......hope you feel better soon......
HI, David. My wife had the same problem with pain meds. Dulcolax worked wonders. It seems like it's one of the little things in life...but, boy, can it wreak havoc. Got my calender today. The public news would lead us all to believe that prostate cancer is a disease that is easily treated. Having had a relatively easy go of it since diagnosis and surgery over five years ago I realize after reading not only yours but several other blogs that this is far from a simple situation. The average Joe must be made to understand that pca is much more than incontinence and e.d. but rather a cancer that can act quite aggressively. More information about cases such as yours must meet the light of day so that awareness is boosted. May G-d bless you and keep you within his heart.
